The relations of Initia and Celestia

About Celestia

Celestia is a modular blockchain network that focuses on providing a scalable data availability layer without being responsible for execution, which is the process of running transactions and smart contracts. This separation of concerns allows for greater flexibility and scalability in blockchain systems. Celestia's main contribution to the blockchain ecosystem is its Data Availability (DA) infrastructure, which ensures that data is available for anyone to retrieve and verify, even if they are not running a full node.

About Initia

Initia is a blockchain platform that leverages Celestia's modular DA layer to build a unified system of interwoven rollups. Rollups are a scaling solution that executes transactions outside the main Ethereum chain (Layer 1) but posts transaction data on it. By using Celestia's DA layer, Initia can provide scalable and secure modular blockchains, which are referred to as Minitias when built on Initia's platform.

The relationship between Celestia and Initia is that Initia uses Celestia's technology to offer a scalable foundation for its rollups. This allows Initia to focus on creating a seamless experience for developers and users by handling the complexities of execution and interoperability within its ecosystem, while relying on Celestia for the crucial aspect of data availability. This partnership enables Initia to build a network of application-specific Layer 2 blockchains (Minitias) that are secure, performant, and interoperable, with features such as 500ms block times, over 10,000 transactions per second, and support for multiple virtual machines like MoveVM, EVM, and WasmVM.
